Anderson South Carolina

The “Electric City” founded in December 1826 Anderson South Carolina was the first city in the south to have an unlimited supply of electric power. Also known as the “All-America City” a title awarded by the National Civic League in 2000 because of its deep sense of community and civic spirit. Anderson County is in the northwestern part of the state, near the Georgia border sandwiched between lake Hartwell and the city of Greenville, south of Clemson.
The city was named after Robert Anderson, a prominent politician and military figure. Initially a small trading post, Anderson grew significantly with the arrival of the railroad in the 19th century, which spurred industrial development. The city became known for its textile mills and later expanded into various manufacturing sectors.
Anderson played a key role during the Civil War, with its proximity to important Southern railroads and its contributions to the war effort. After the war, the city continued to grow as an industrial hub, particularly with the rise of the cotton industry. Today, Anderson is a thriving community that blends its rich historical roots with modern industry, outdoor recreation, and a vibrant local culture.
